Long Gong

About

Long Gong is a 300 yard shooting challenge using rifles chambered in 22lr only.

The targets are 8”, 6”, and 4” gongs. Each gong has a point value. 1 point for the 8” gong, 2 points for the 6” gong, and 3 points for the 4” gong.

The event is shot from a bench rest and is limited to bipods, monopods and bag. No sleds or rail guns allowed.

The participants will shoot 5 rounds of 10 shots per round. Each round has a time limit of 3 minutes that will begin and end on the match director’s commands.

The shooting order will be determined by drawing numbered chips. Each successive set will be determined by the shooters’ scores. If two or more shooters have identical scores, whoever shoots the score first will shoot first in the following round.

The shooter will start with the 8” gong. When they hit the 8” gong they will receive 1 point and will be allowed to move to the 6” gong, if they wish. If they hit the 6” gong they will receive 2 points and will be allowed to shoot the 4” gong, if they wish. If they hit the 4” gong they will receive 3 points.

If the shooter misses a gong, they will not be awarded any points and will be required to go back to the previous gong.

Before each shot, the shooter must tell the scorekeeper which gong they are shooting at so there is no chance of getting points for hitting the wrong gong.

Each 10 shot round has a possible high score of 27 points. The high score for the match is 135 points. In the event of a tie, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single round score.
