CMP – Civilian Maksmanship Program Rifle Match

About

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a national organization dedicated to training and educating U. S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions. The CMP is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) corporation that places its highest priority on serving youth through gun safety and marksmanship activities that encourage personal growth and build life skills.

The federal law enacted in 1996 (Title 36 U. S. Code, §40701-40733) that created the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearms Safety, Inc. (CPRPFS, the formal legal name of the CMP) mandates these key “functions” for the corporation:

To instruct citizens of the United States in marksmanship
To promote practice and safety in the use of firearms
To conduct competitions in the use of firearms and to award trophies, prizes, badges, and other insignia to competitors.

The law specifically states: In carrying out the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the corporation shall give priority to activities that benefit firearms safety, training, and competition for youth and that reach as many youth participants as possible.

How A Match Is Run

The CMP John C. Garand Course A will be fired at 200 yards on the South Range for all sanctioned matches.

Course of Fire:

Five Sighting Shots: From any legal position, slow fire single load; 5 minutes.
Ten shots: prone; slow fire; single load; 10 minutes.
Ten shots: standing to prone; rapid fire; 80 seconds.
Ten shots: standing; slow fire; single load; 10 minutes

Divisons

All persons shoot in an open class.

Equipment

Eye and Ear protection is required for everyone.
Spotter scopes, shooting mats, tools, shooting jackets
Minimum of 2 extra clips/magazines
Ammunition (Minimum of 35 Rounds): Competitors must supply their own ammunition. The club may have .30-06 available for purchase.
Rifles Allowed:
- As-issued U.S. Caliber .30 M1 Garand (9.2.2)
- 1903 Springfield (9.3.2)
- Vintage Military (9.4.2)
- Modern Military

Fees

$10 per competitor. $5.00 for a second relay. Juniors shoot free and must be accompanied by an adult.

There are no membership fees.

Registration

Registration will be held the day of the match from 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 p.m. Firing will commence at approximately 10:00 a.m.

Dates

Scheduled matches: NRA and CMP share the third Sunday of each month May – September.
